Dental

Our Dentists

The faculty, residents, students, and staff of the UConn School of Dental Medicine are here to provide you with the best dental treatment available.

University Dentists

University Dentists is a group practice comprised of highly trained and academically based faculty who provide comprehensive and specialized care in all fields of dentistry. Our experts work separately or together to help you to achieve and maintain optimal oral and dental health. University Dentists offers complete diagnosis, contemporary treatment, and comprehensive follow-up services as well as consultations.

Student Clinics

As an academic medical center, UConn Health’s Student Clinics offer patients comprehensive dental care in a comfortable environment provided by dental students under the supervision of experienced and licensed clinical faculty. Although the time required to complete treatment in our student clinics is longer than in a private practice setting, fees are generally 75-80% less.

Resident Clinics

Resident Clinics offer both comprehensive and specialized treatment with care provided by graduate dentists receiving advanced training. Residents provide care under the supervision of experienced and licensed clinical faculty and care will generally take less time than with our student providers, however, the fees are generally 40-50% less.

Questions for New Patients

When you contact us, you will receive an appointment for a brief oral and dental examination to determine your general treatment needs, make an assessment, and assign you to the appropriate clinical setting for your care. The Dental Care Center is open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. with extended hours until 7 p.m. in many areas.

  • How Do I Become a Patient?

Individuals wishing to receive dental care should request a screening appointment.

During the screening appointment, your medical and dental history will be reviewed. You will receive a dental evaluation to determine your overall dental needs.

There is a fee for the screening visit and additional charges for any x-rays that are needed. If you have had recent dental x-rays, please bring them to your appointment.

Following your screening visit, your dental record will be reviewed and you will be referred to one of our patient care areas based upon your dental needs.

Your next visit will be with your provider who will complete a detailed examination and develop a plan of treatment suited to your needs. An estimate of treatment costs will be provided.

  • How Long Will It Take to Complete My Treatment?

The length of time to complete dental treatment will vary from patient to patient. The number and length of visits can be expected to be greater in the predoctoral student clinics as dental students work at a slower pace than dentists or residents.

  • How Much Will My Treatment Cost?

Our fees are lower than private practice fees. The fees in the predoctoral student clinic are lowest because the length of time to complete treatment is greater.

You will receive an estimate for all treatment before it is performed.

  • How Do I Pay for My Treatment?

Payment for care is expected at the time of the visit. Patient services representatives are available to meet with you and review all financial arrangements.

We accept cash, checks, Visa and MasterCard.

The UConn School of Dental Medicine participates with most insurance companies and will submit insurance claims on your behalf.

  • What Can I Expect as a Patient?

You can expect to receive the highest quality of care and can expect to be treated with respect and compassion. You can expect to be informed of all aspects of your treatment and participate in discussions about your treatment.

  • What if I Have an Emergency?

Emergency care is available at all times. If you are in the need of emergency care during the evenings, weekends or holidays, please call 860-679-2000.
