International Traveler's
Before traveling abroad, you can greatly minimize your health risks by visiting the International Travel Medicine group at UConn Health.
Our International Traveler’s Medical Service, including Tropical Medicine, provides pre-travel counseling and immunization to avoid unnecessary risks from unfamiliar but preventable diseases when traveling to developing areas. We offer post-travel follow-up for individuals who become ill due to their travels.
UConn Health’s Infectious Disease specialists work to treat a wide range of infections and lower public health risks through highly specialized care. With infectious diseases from viruses, bacteria, parasites, and fungi posing increasingly severe threats to public health, we are committed to keeping Connecticut healthy.
We provide comprehensive and up-to-date vaccinations to support public health goals. Healthy adults needing general vaccinations, such as the flu or COVID-19, should consult their Primary Care provider or general clinics.
Our infectious disease physicians manage bone and joint infections with antibiotics, working closely with our orthopedic specialists at UConn Health, including podiatry, neurosurgery, and other UConn services, to provide connected care with internal referrals that take the guesswork out of treatment.
UConn Health is a Ryan White service provider that offers a wide range of HIV-related ancillary and patient support services, including Nutrition Services, medical navigation, case management, and medication support.
For those at risk of contracting HIV/AIDS, we offer breakthrough PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis) that can help reduce your chance of getting HIV when taken as prescribed. We welcome you to learn more through our LGBTQIA+ Services.

If Tuberculosis (TB) is suspected, our team will order testing to confirm a diagnosis. Care options may include short-term hospital stays and antibiotic treatment plans for active and latent TB.
Nontuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) do not cause tuberculosis or leprosy. Symptoms and treatment vary greatly from person to person, so we collaborate with pulmonologists to create a customized treatment plan for each patient.
Our providers specialize in evaluating and treating Lyme disease and other tick-borne infections, including Anaplasmosis and Babesiosis. Our providers adhere to the latest national guidelines for the diagnosis and management of these conditions in accordance with the Infectious Diseases Society of America.
