Low Dose Aspirin Therapy

Aspirin Use During Pregnancy

According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the Society of Maternal-Fetal Medicine, low dose aspirin can reduce a woman’s risk for preeclampsia and other hypertensive disorders in pregnancy.

Low dose aspirin is recommended for pregnant women with certain medical conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes, and kidney disease. Pregnant women with higher risk factors for hypertensive disorders like first pregnancy, age 35 or older, or twin or triplet pregnancy may also benefit.

If your health care provider recommends low dose aspirin during your pregnancy, take 81mg of aspirin at bedtime every day, starting between 12 and 16 weeks of pregnancy. Continue to take it until you are at least 36 weeks.

If you think you might benefit from low dose aspirin during your pregnancy, talk with your health care provider today.
