Neuro-Ophthalmology

What Is Neuro-Ophthalmology?

Neuro-ophthalmology is a specialty that diagnoses and treats eye disorders related to the nervous system. These disorders affect eye movements and the brain’s processing of visual information and are often caused by neurological injuries or diseases such as trauma, stroke, or multiple sclerosis.

Neuro-ophthalmologists are trained in both ophthalmology and neurology, so they have a thorough understanding of how the eyes and the brain interact. Because of this advanced training, the neuro-ophthalmologists at UConn Health are skilled and experienced in identifying and treating all neuro-ophthalmologic disorders.
