Physical Therapy (PT)

Our UConn Health physical therapists are movement experts who optimize quality of life through prescribed exercise, hands-on care, and patient education. We combine extensive teaching, clinical experience, and the latest research to help patients:

  • Improve mobility
  • Manage pain and other chronic conditions
  • Recover from injury
  • Prevent future injury and persistent pain

Our physical therapists care for people of all ages and abilities. They tailor treatment plans to your specific needs and goals, empower you to participate actively in your own treatment, and work collaboratively with other health professionals to ensure you receive the care you need when you need it.

At UConn Health, we have specialty programs in the field of physical therapy. These include:

Occupational Therapy (OT)

Through the therapeutic use of daily activities (occupations), we help people of all ages prevent—or better live with—injury, illness, or disability. Our OT specialists have a whole-body perspective, focusing on adapting the environment and task to fit the person, and are experts in:

Our OT services typically include:

  • An individualized evaluation to determine your unique goals
  • Customized intervention to improve your ability to perform daily activities
  • An outcomes evaluation to ensure your goals are being met

Speech-Language Pathologists

Our Speech-Language Pathologists work to prevent, assess, diagnose, and treat:

  • Speech, language, and social communication
  • Cognitive communication
  • Swallowing in children and adults

We provide augmentative and alternative communication systems for individuals with severe expressive and language comprehension disorders, such as those on the autism spectrum or who have progressive neurological disorders.

Our team also works with people who may not have a disorder but want to learn how to communicate more effectively, such as work accent modification or other forms of communication enhancement.
